Read:

Adam and Eve disobeyed God for the first time. Suddenly, everything felt different. The perfect intimacy they had with God in the Garden of Eden was broken. Shame and fear flooded in. They realized they were naked—not just physically, but spiritually. And in that instant, the safe, open relationship they had enjoyed with God felt gone. Fear made them want to run, to hide from the one who had created them and walked with them in the garden.

We still do this today. We mess up, and instead of running to God, we hide. We assume he’s mad or disappointed. But God came looking for Adam—not to punish, but to restore. His first question was gentle: “Where are you?” Not because he didn’t know, but because he wanted them to know he still wanted them

The cross proves the same truth for us today: we don’t have to hide. Jesus took our shame so we could come close to him again. On the cross, he bore the consequences of our sin so that the fear of punishment, the shame, and the separation we feel when we mess up no longer have the final word. Because of what he did, we can step out of hiding and experience God’s love, forgiveness, and restoration firsthand.

Prayer: God, I’m sorry I’ve run away from you in the past. I’ve worried about what you’d think, or feared that you’d reject me. Thank you for always meeting me with compassion and grace. I’m so grateful there’s nothing that can separate me from your love!
